How to avoid making dinner

You know that feeling you get when you're doing something you know you shouldn't - that you're tempting fate - that you should NOT be trying to separate frozen turkey burger patties WITH A KNIFE?? Yeah, that feeling? Is a good feeling to heed. Because rest assured that said knife will slip and lodge itself deep within your left hand, producing an instant river of blood at which you may or may not use choice words before deciding you need to lay down before your body decides to do it for you. And probably most of your friends and neighbors are unavailable so you get to take all your kids to (a mercifully sparse) urgent care, once you have the stomach to get up, where you learn that you are not the only irritated-at-yourself frozen meat patty and knife injury of the afternoon(!!). A tetanus shot, a scrubbing that my dad would delight in, and 6 stitches later, I emerged to observe a now-full waiting room, grateful for my awesome timing. The lengths I'll go to avoid making dinner...

That wound still looks a little dirty to me. I'll be right over.
Dad

P.S. Glad you're recovering.

My stomach hurts just reading the account. I think I need to lie down.

Wow, I wasn't aware of the knife-and-frozen-food epidemic.

That is SO something I would do.

Oh ouch! Definitely, just get take out next time!

Timing is everything, so I guess I'm glad you skewered yourself early.

I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

Thanks for throwing a wrench into my insistence that I really can use a knife in whatever capacity I want. Six stitches, huh? Way to do it up big.

Turkey burgers?! Turkey?

Aaaaaaaaaah! After reading the first sentence, I was having flashbacks to the pampered chef slicer incident. Considering how queasy that made you (and heck, how queasy ANYTHING makes me!), good job getting your kids in the car and driving to urgent care.

In my haste, I neglected to mention that Joel was home and served as my paramedic. There's no way I could have driven myself. And yes, I almost passed out and yes I did go into shock (surprise surprise) and yes, TURKEY burgers - as in ground turkey - in an effort to make a healthier lasagna. Serves me right.

Today my hand is swollen and sore and blue. Fancy!

Ouch!!!

Glad you're doing better...but I don't know if a swollen, sore, and blue hand is exactly what I call better.

Ow, ow, ow. I'm cringing at the description. I'm sorry you speared your hand, but glad (?!) you made it to the urgent care at a relatively slow time.

dude. no offense but would it have been so hard to type a brief warning to your readers about the graphic nature of this post? i mean, i know you were in shock and only have ONE HAND, but sheesh. i need to go lie down.

(get well soon, friend!)

Now that I know you're ok...what a great story! That's one you can hang over their heads for a long time...the things I do for you! Heather
