Thursday morning

Gemma had a pretty disruptive sleep last night, which translates into me having a very disruptive sleep. Then I had to remind Ainsleigh that mornings are for getting ready for school (make bed, get dressed, brush hair) and not for playing her Leapster. This was met with the SCOWL and the barest hit of a whine that I cut off with a, "We're not having that kind of morning. I'll come check on you in 15 minutes. If you're smart, you'll do what you're supposed to and then play. If you're not, then you'll probably get your Leapster taken away." With that, I brought the Distraction (Dono) downstairs for breakfast. He whined about a toy that wasn't working. After getting the kids breakfast, making their lunches and unloading the dishwasher, I decided to quickly super glue the toy. It should probably be noted that in the battle of Sarah vs. Super Glue, I am very rarely the victor. Why should it even be a battle, you ask? Because it just is. Leave me alone. So I'm super gluing and trying to work quickly and...I've superglued the plastic part to my left middle finger. Oh for the love of cheese. And now Gemma is calling out and we're supposed to leave in a few minutes and I run upstairs to locate some nail polish remover so I don't have to drive to school with a giant purple plastic piece extending from my middle finger and ouch they're not kidding around when they say you can peel off your own skin before that glue gives way and I'm running and panting and asking myself why on earth I thought that I could do this one little stupid thing when surely I should know better by now and I'm racing back downstairs when I see this on the landing:

(please note the frowning faces and her use of the dark to express true sadness)

Ugh. At first I laughed at the dramatics, but then mid-eyeroll, my eyes dropped back to the magnadoodle and I considered that she didn't ask why I liked Donovan MORE than her, which is generally the claim (of either child), but why I didn't like her. So now I'm racing to get the kids out to school but also so I can take her aside and explain that just because I want her to get dressed and brush her hair, doesn't mean I don't like her. I don't want her to start her day like that. So we chat (briefly) and hug (briefly) and run out to the car (quickly) and drive to school (quickly but safely) and she walks into the building (happily) and I drive home (slowly), trying to pick the remnants of the evil glue off of my middle finger (painfully). That's how my morning started. How was yours?

At least she knows how to express her feelings. Plus, no matter how careful I am I always get superglue on my fingers and it's there for DAYS

After 18 years of getting kids off to school, I am still waiting for it to be calm. I love the challenge though...maybe tomorrow will be better.... :)
