On Autumn and Goose Eggs

Last week I was upstairs in the laundry room when I sensed this unusual glow emanating from Ainsleigh's room. I stuck my head out to see what was going on, and my breath caught as I beheld a window of yellow. That's when I ran downstairs to tell Joel to go take a picture of the front of our house. I want us to remember the year we had autumn.

Last year, see, like every other year, we get some snowstorm the beginning of October and all the trees go, "Ok - it's winter! We give up!" And poof, all the GREEN leaves fall off the trees and there they stand, for weeks after that first snow melts, naked.

But this year we are enjoying a full-fledged fall. I have been particularly pleased with the colors in front of our house. And now we have picture proof so in years to come when we say, "Remember the year we had fall?" we'll know we weren't exaggerating.

And in completely unrelated news, I have a goose egg. This is what happens, I suppose, when you bend over to pull up your 2-year-old's underwear at someone else's house and don't realize how close you are to their bathroom counter. I just sort of shook it off and went about the evening. It wasn't until the next night that Joel asked what was going on with my forehead.

"Oh, I whacked my head last night. I didn't realize it made a bump." Feeling my head, I realized it was actually kind of painful.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't know - it didn't seem like that big of a deal. There's a lot going on."
"That's ridiculous. I don't think I've ever seen a goose egg on an adult who wasn't in a bar fight."

So there you have it, people. I'm the equivalent of a 4 year old or a brawler.

Take a picture of the goose egg! That's what we really want to see!

I'm going to start telling people that my head gash resulted from a bar fight. That's much more glamorous.
